German U15 elects Günter M. Ziegler as deputy chairman

The members of German U15 have elected a new board. Prof. Dr. Georg Krausch, Presi­dent of Johannes Guten­berg Univer­sity Mainz, will take over as chair­man of the board. Hector Fellow Günter M. Ziegler, Presi­dent of the Free Univer­sity of Berlin, was elected as deputy chair­man. The new board will be in office from the 1st of Septem­ber 2020 for two years.

The German U15 repre­sents 15 leading research-inten­sive univer­si­ties which are among the most acade­m­i­cally distin­guished and inter­na­tion­ally renowned insti­tu­tions of the German science system. The U15 univer­si­ties repre­sent almost a third of all German and inter­na­tional students in Germany. They super­vise half of all completed doctoral projects in Germany. The U15 univer­si­ties raise two fifths of public third-party funds and even 60 percent of those in the medical sector.
