2025 Hector Science Award Winner Opens New Paths in Cardio­vas­cu­lar Medicine

Hector Fellow Stefanie Dimmeler, a member of the Hector Fellow Academy since 2025, has been awarded the Cross of Merit, First Class, of the Order of Merit of the Federal Repub­lic of Germany. The distinc­tion was presented by Hesse’s Minis­ter-Presi­dent Boris Rhein during an official ceremony in Wiesbaden on July 13, 2026.

Profes­sor Stefanie Dimmeler, based in Frank­furt am Main, is one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of cardio­vas­cu­lar medicine. As Direc­tor of the Insti­tute for Cardio­vas­cu­lar Regen­er­a­tion at Goethe Univer­sity Frankfurt’s Center for Molec­u­lar Medicine, she has made major contri­bu­tions to our under­stand­ing of cardio­vas­cu­lar diseases through her research in molec­u­lar medicine and cardiac regen­er­a­tion. Her work on non-coding RNAs and innov­a­tive approaches to the treat­ment of myocar­dial infarc­tion has opened up new paths for diagnos­tics and therapy and has received inter­na­tional recognition.

Stefanie Dimmeler is a member of several national and inter­na­tional scien­tific acade­mies and organi­za­tions, includ­ing the German National Academy of Sciences Leopold­ina and EMBO. Through­out her career, she has received numer­ous presti­gious national and inter­na­tional awards, includ­ing the Hector Science Award in 2025.
