Prof. Dr. Axel Meyer

Axel Meyer is Profes­sor of Zoology and Evolu­tion­ary Biology at the Univer­sity of Konstanz.

He belongs to the pioneers in the field of evolu­tion­ary biology. For example, he found out that speci­a­tion may occur without geographic barri­ers and discov­ered that genome evolu­tion is possi­ble within few decades. Further­more, he did pioneer work using genetic data to demon­strate relation­ships of individ­ual species.

For his works Axel Meyer received, among others, an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) and the Carus Medal of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopold­ina). The magazine CICERO lists him among the most impor­tant intel­lec­tu­als of Germany. He is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopold­ina), the Ameri­can Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Berlin-Branden­burg Academy of Sciences and Human­i­ties (BBAW), the Acade­mia Europaea and the European Molec­u­lar Biology Organization.
