What Children Teach Us — The Future of Personalized Medicine

Science Evening 2026

Pediatric medicine is characterized by both excellent basic research and the challenge of consistently tailoring medical care to the specific needs of young patients. Children are not just small adults—they experience illness, health, and medical treatment in their own unique way. Child-centered medicine must take this perspective seriously, listen to their voices, and respect their rights. But what does medicine that truly puts children at the center look like? What role do their experiences and needs play in research? And what can adults learn from children—especially with regard to the future of personalized medicine?

The Hector Fellow Academy’s public science evening, held as part of the 2026 Year of Science “Medicine of the Future,” is dedicated to these central questions. The event, titled “What Children Teach Us — The Future of Personalized Medicine” will take place on May 21, 2026, at 6 p.m. in Munich and is open to all citizens interested in science. Those interested can attend the lecture program either in person at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences (Residenz München) or online via livestream. During the reception that follows, guests will have the opportunity for further discussion and conversation.
