He is an internationally renowned researcher in the fields of machine learning and artificial intelligence. His focus lies on foundational research at the intersection of machine learning and big data management, with a particular emphasis on explainable AI, deep learning, and multimodal learning. Over the last three decades he has also been significantly engaged in making the methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence applicable to other scientific disciplines, such as quantum chemistry, digital histopathology, neuroscience, and the humanities, in order to create genuinely new knowledge.
Klaus-Robert Müller is a distinguished professor at Korea University in Seoul and a member of the Leopoldina, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, and the German Academy of Engineering. In addition to various "best paper" awards, he received the Berliner Wissenschaftspreis of the Governing Mayor in 2014 and the Vodafone Innovation Prize in 2017. Since 2019, he has continuously appeared on the list of "Highly Cited" researchers by Clarivate Analytics.
