Leif S. Ludwig is an Emmy Noether-group leader in the focus area Single cell approaches for personalized medicine of the Berlin Institute of Health, the Charité Universitätsmedizin and the Max-Delbrück-Center/Berlin Institute of Medical Systems Biology.

His research lies at the interface of hematology, human genetics and single cell genomics. He specializes in the development and application of single cell multi-omic approaches, for example, to quantify the stem cell activities in the context of human hematopoiesis. Related to this is the goal of developing a deeper understanding of how mitochondrial DNA mutations contribute to human mutations contribute to human diseases.

He won multiple wards, including the BroadIgnite Award, the Elisabeth-Gateff Award and the MINT Excellence Award. He received research support by the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds and the German Academic Scholarship Foundation and more recently an Emmy Noether Fellowship by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
