Prof. Dr. Robert Hein

Organic Chemistry Institute and Center for Soft Nanoscience, University of Münster

Robert Hein is Junior Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Münster, where he leads a research group supported by a Liebig and NRW Return Fellowship.

In his research,h Robert focuses on the synthesis and analysis of novel molecules which reversibly change, for example, their colour, fluorescence or geometry in response to electrical stimulation. These redox switches are investigated by his group for both fundamental studies as well as proof-of-concept applications. This includes sensors, molecular machines, energy storage as well as responsive surfaces and materials.

He was awarded multiple Prizes and Fellowships, for example the Thieme Journals Chemistry Award, a Fellowship by the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes, a Fulford Junior Research Fellowship and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie-Fellowship. Additionally, Robert is a member of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and the Friends of the Chemistry Olympiad e.V.
